GCC CLAN

                        NewsLetter

Editor:  Chuckster                                           Gulf Coast Commandos                                               Mar.10, 2005

This is the first GCC Clan News letter and will attempt to bring some interesting

information to all Clan Members.  We presently don't have a format for this

publication and I'm sure it will undergo many changes in the future, so I ask you

to bear with us during these growing periods.  OK, on with the news……

First, a very huge Welcome  to all members and guests.  If you are a guest,

we would enjoy having you submit an application to join our clan.  The form is

available on our website. (http://www.gulfcoastcommandos.clanservers.com)

                                               Clan History

Our Clan officially started on 9/23/2004.   We began with one 12 man server and

Team Speak.  Unfortunately, the server experienced considerable LAG and we

changed to another Server Provider.

When we changed to the new provider we increased the server size to a 14 man

server.  Subsequently, just before Christmas, 2004 we added another 12 man

server and upgraded our Team Speak server to 28 player capacity.

All in all, we have been very happy with the present provider and while there have

been brief periods of outages; the overall performance has certainly been acceptable.

Actually, it's been excellent.  We suffer very little LAG on the game servers and the

only major areas of concern have been with the Team Speak Server.  Hopefully

these anomalies have been permanently corrected.

                                   NEWS from the Admins.

Founder and Admin: BigB,                                Support Admin's:  Chuckster  & V1ROT8

Our Clan has grown in size to the point that it now requires a hierarchy of some sort.

Since it is a game based on the Military, Rank seems appropriate, along with different

groups or Divisions.  We have also had many requests from younger players wanting

to join.  Consequently, it appeared to be in the best interests of the Clan to establish a

ROTC Division.

When looking at the Roster, you will notice the Lieutenant positions are not filled.  We

felt it should be up to the Captains to determine the best choice for their Lt.'s.  That

will leave an empty Sgt. position and those below that grade will have the opportunity

to compete for it.  As mentioned in an earlier email, rank will probably NOT be based

on number of kills alone, but on over all playing ability.  Also, these divisions and not

"Cast in concrete" except for the ROTC which is age based. (under 18).  In following

with Military procedures, Rank Has It's Privileges, and responsibilities.  (RHIP).

Since our Clan is reasonably small, we opted not to include a Rifles/Sniper Div. at this

time.  That will possibly change as we grow.

As it stands, the Admin's are part of the Executive Branch and really have no rank other

than Big B who has final say in all decisions.  In general, all Clan Members will be polled

on decisions involving the Clan and their input will be considered prior to a final decision.

The polling procedure will, in most cases, be delegated to the Captains of each Div.

They in turn will represent their Divisions during meetings with the Admins.

In 1st & 2nd Div.

The privileges of rank include the right to represent the Clan in all matches, the first to

be admitted to a full server, especially if the server is full of other GCC members, and

to be more intimately involved with the decision making process involving Clan Policies.

We expect these privileges to cascade downward accordingly

ROTC Div.

The Captain will have the same privileges as the other Captains.  At this point there are

several options concerning the ROTC Div.

The original objection to younger Clan members was primarily legal in nature.  As we

all know, there are many law suits involving those under the age of 18, hence, we voted

not to allow them in the Clan.  By changing that policy, we are accepting more

responsibility as adults to curtail our profanity, refrain from "off color" jokes and

discussions involving sex in general when minors are present.

Bearing that in mind, we, as adults, do have a right to enjoy adult humor and adult

comradery.  A possible solution to that dilemma is to impose a curfew on allowing

minors into the "Main Server" and Team Speak.  In an effort to still allow the ROTC

members a place to participate in a game after curfew, we suggest changing the 12

man Server from Team Death Match to Capture the Flag and renaming it to "Gulf

Coast Commandos ROTC Server".  The curfew times have not been established as

yet and will probably be defined by poll.

We also suggest either an "Over 18" channel on TS that would be password

protected, or the requirement that all minors switch to a ROTC channel.  As a brief

note, IF the password protected option is chosen, or becomes necessary, and there

is a problem on the ROTC server, they will not easily be able to get in touch with an

Admin.  I would think having to voluntarily go to a ROTC channel would build some

integrity. Those that abuse the rule could be banned from teamspeak for a period of

time.  Similarly, those that violate the trust and come on the main server after curfew

could be banned for a period of time.  Continued abuse of either would result in

permanent banishment.

                                      Membership

This area will be where we present new members to the rest of the Clan.  Since this

is the first News Letter and we have just added rank, and groups, I will simply say

are glad you choose GCC and look forward to getting to know you better.  If you

                                               Clan Matches

From V1ROT8 as posted in the Forums.

I just wanted to congratulate all who were involved in dishing out

the whooping our challengers received on Tuesday March 1st. Keep

up the good work guys. Sorry I missed it, but that's the way it goes.

Here's to more and even better matches. Also, there is going to be

an effort to get everyone in the clan more involved in the website

and the forums section in particular. There is going to

be a gradual shift toward posting more information in the forums

section so we can keep everyone up to date without having to clog

our increasingly crowded TS server with news everyone can get

from there. Eventually all scheduled clan matches will be posted

on the site as well. So........keep checking back

I certainly second the Congrats to all.  Several members of the Clan we played

against have come back on our servers and all conduct themselves with honor

and good sportsmanship.  I hope when we see then we take the time to

acknowledge their presence.

Which brings us up to the next topic.  During the above mentioned Clan match,

everyone did not get the opportunity to participate. Part of the solution is the

new rank and Divisions but we still need to set up a way to rotate the players

so as many as possible get a chance to play.

At this point in time, IF we are to play on our server, we are limited to 7 players

per side.  Since we normally play 3 maps, we could choose the players for each

map ahead of time and rotate them in, as their map comes up.  That will work

for the present but as the Clan grows, we will need to select another method.

Whether it be by Division, random draws, intra clan competition or some other

method, we all need to be thinking of the future.  We do hope to increase the

capacity of our main server and that would remove the 7 man limit.  More about

that in a bit.

Clan Challenge by DbD

We have been challenged by the DbD clan to a match but I don't have a firm

date or time.  Would someone please confirm the time and let me know so

that I can email all members with the pertinent information. (Remember

V1ROT8's note above about the Forums)

                           Server Fund

At this time there is no charge to belong to the Clan. Originally all costs were

born by BigB and he is the party directly responsible to our Server Provider.

Unfortunately, he informs me that he is NOT repeating NOT independently

wealthy!

Just recently, a few contributions have been received.  THANK YOU!

However, since the contributions are not enough to pay for the server, he still

makes up the necessary difference.  While there are no plans to make

membership contributions mandatory, ANY amount is APPRECIATED. And

the addition of a larger server or adding any additional servers will be limited

by the funds available.  So this spot in the News Letter will be to remind every

one when the Server Payment is coming due.

If you wish to donate, there is a link on the webpage.  If you would rather not

donate via credit card, you may mail a contribution to:
